Gene Locklear is a Native American of the Lumbee Tribe. In addition to being an artist Gene played Major League Baseball from 1969 - 1979. He was an outfielder and played for the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds. He was a member of Cincinnati's 'Big Red Machine' in the 1970's. Gene transitioned to full time artist once his playing days were over.

He brings an unique background and perspective to his art. He is one of about two dozen Native Americans to play in the Majors. He has specialized in Native American and sports themed art.
